A few weeks ago our favorite couple friends asked something truly amazing of us. They asked us to help them start a family. No surrogates or donors, but rather to be one of their references for the adoption process they are starting. Our letter of reference will be read by the bio-moms and will help to fill out the picture of who our friends are and why we believe they should be parents.
As D$ and I look forward to starting our own family ourselves someday, I marvel at the hoops our friends are jumping through to be deemed worthy of being parents, when for the average person it is a simple sexual act that makes them parents. No classes, no letters of reference, no financial obligation, no lawyers, no hoops.
I look at our dear friends who have made this decision to expand their family in a truly amazing fashion and hope and pray for them that this be a satisfying and swift process for them. We hope we can live up to their expectations and fulfill this honor.
I think it's awesome that you can help your friends with this big step. It is incredible to me the hoops you must jump through, but with the support you are giving, hopefully it will be a little easier!
