1. I don't know if you remember this post about Cory? In January of 2010 she was diagnosed with leukemia just a handful of days after getting engaged. I am over-the-moon-thankful that I attended her wedding on Monday. It was a really fun event and Cory is the picture of health (and happiness!). I was so happy to be there for my buddy Gene and witness their vows.
2. (this is a stretch) Gene and I had a friend Dante who died 5 years ago. He truly was an amazing human being and his words he lived by and preached were "Don't Hate". He loved life and lived it to the fullest, although he died too young. Being at Gene's wedding made me think about Dante, brought up memories of old shenanigans and good times we had together. I've never spent a wedding thinking so much about someone who wasn't with us. Of course I thought of Dante and family members on my wedding day- but I didn't linger my thoughts on them, for fear of breaking down. But thinking on Dante on Monday was good, wistful and powerful. I'm thankful I had that time to remember my friend again.
3. Riding the Bus! Since we moved 3 months ago, I've threatened to take the bus. I'm 4 miles from work, right on a bus line and the schedule works with mine. Finally yesterday I took the bus. I absolutely love it. I listen to podcasts on my walk (there is a bus stop a block away, but I end up walking a half a mile to another one- no transfers, better schedule), I read the news on my ride (and do a lot of people watching). It takes extra planning- packing a lunch, getting up a few minutes earlier, having to walk out the door at exactly 7:52, making sure I have exact change...but I love it. I am so thankful my community has a good bus system and I am happy to support it!
What are you thankful for this week?
